Biography

David Cortes Rodríguez holds a Master of Arts with an emphasis in Musical Composition from the University of Chile. Born in Santiago, Chile, on December 16, 1985, he began his studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile’s Institute of Music in 2000 where he studied Flute Performance with the renowned national musician Alejandro Lavanderos. Between 2006 and 2011 he studied Musical Composition at the University of Chile with Fernando Carrasco, graduating with maximum distinction. His most important composition, Tololo (2011), performed for viola and string orchestra, premiered on October 1st at the Luis Advis Composition Competition, organized by the National Council of Culture and Arts of Chile at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center, winning the first place in the competition. He is an active member of the National Association of Composers of Chile (ANC).
