Biography

George Hatzimichelakis (1959) is composer, philologist and Phd musicologist. Ηe studied Music Theory with Costas Clavvas, Byzantine Music with Constantinos Catsoulis and Vassilis Nonis, and Composition with Theodore Antoniou. He has extensive experience in Greek traditional music and in free improvisational practices. His works include compositions for solo instruments, chamber music, symphonic music, electronics, stage music and soundtracks. He has received commissions to compose for various orchestras and music organizations. At the request of the choreographer Maria M. Horss he composed the music for the Lighting of the Olympic Torch Ceremonies for the 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 Olympic Games.
