Biography

A Benjamin Franklin Doctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, Kai-Young Chan assimilates various Asian cultural traditions into his music, which is played across the continents by ensembles such as Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Daedalus Quartet, International Ensemble Modern Academy, Ensemble XXI, and Hong Kong New Ensemble. He was featured in ISCM World Music Days 2012 (Belgium), 2013 Chinese Composers’ Festival (Hong Kong), Darmstadt Ferienkurse(Germany), Risuonanze Festival(Italy), and UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers(Helsinki). He won the composition competition of Dolce Suono Ensemble, champion in New Generation 2012, David Gwilt Composition Prize and CASH Music Scholarship, among other accolades.
