Biography

Martin Burlas is a Slovak composer, guitarist and keyboard player. Not allowed to study at the conservatory, he took private piano and composition lessons. After completing the grammar school he studied composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (being the last student of Ján Cikker). As a consequence of being repeatedly rejected by official institutions, he founded several ensembles (Matthews, Sleepy Motion); later in the 1990s, together with Daniel Matej and other composers, he initiated the formation of VENI ensemble, Transmusic comp., Vitebsk Broken, Požoň sentimentál, Vapori del cuore.
