Biography

CHRISTOPHER BOCHMANN (born 1950) studied at Oxford University, from where he has a D.Mus. He also studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris and Richard Rodney Bennett in London.

He has worked in Portugal since 1980, initially at the Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa and at the Conservatório Nacional and later at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa of which he was Director for six years and where he supervised the composition course for sixteen. Since 2006 he has been at the University of Évora, where he is at present Dean of the Arts. He has been principal conductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil (Lisbon Youth Orchestra) since 1984. In 2004 he was awarded a Medal of Cultural Merit by the Portuguese Ministry of Culture and in 2005 he was decorated with the O.B.E.

His compositions include almost all genres, from solo to orchestral music, from chamber music to opera, as well as countless orchestrations and arrangements.
