Biography

Hayes Biggs, born in Huntsville, Alabama and raised in Helena, Arkansas, has taught at Manhattan School of Music since 1992. His awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, a residency at Copland House and a Fromm Foundation Commission. Recent works include Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs, for soprano Susan Narucki and pianist Christopher Oldfather, Three Hymn Tune Preludes, commissioned by organist Gail Archer, The Caged Skylark, composed for C4, and The Trill Is Gone, for solo tenor saxophone. Current projects include Reveries. Passions, a quartet for piano and strings. His String Quartet: O Sapientia/Steal Away, recorded by the Avalon String Quartet, is available on Albany Records.
