2006_ISCM - JAPANESE SECTION

Year:
Report:

Annual Report, July 2006 to November 2007 from Japanese Section

1. - The financial situation of our section is no good. Partially it is owed to bad condition of our national economy. The incomes from the government and several foundations are decreased about 10 % comparing with 2005. To keep the usual level of our activities, many devices should be sought. In near future, the improvement of these situations cannot be expected, unless in the national level the improvement is not realized.

2. - The news from ISCM with other international topics is announced in every month committee meeting and inform them to our members through the news letter of our section.

3. - From October 2006 to March 2007, we had 2 concert series, namely, >>Autumn Exhibition of Contemporary Music 2006<< and >>Exhibition of Contemporary Music 2007<<, in where 12 concerts are held. In particular, we encourage educational program for young generation for years, therefore "The 23rd JSCM Award for Composers" (Mayu Masuda won.), "Instrumental Aterier III" (Workshop with Concert), Music for Children "Dougaku IV" , The 7th JSCM Competition for Contemporary Music Players "Kyo-Gaku VII" (Flutist Reiko Manabe won.) etc. were important projects.
Besides, we published "NEW COMPOSER" Vol.8 in June. It includes reports/review of our activities, interview with Noh player Hideo Kanze, a essay and so on. We intend to issue that magazine once a year.

4. - In the above mentioned concert series, the concert "A Window open to the World, focused on ISCM World Music Days" is performed on 5th of March, 2007. In the concert, Mid- and South American composers are adopted by help of these sections. In the concert, the pieces by Mauricio Kagel (Argentina/Germany), Oscar Carmona (Chile), Oswaldo Torres (Venezuela), Conlon Nancarrow (Mexico), Jorge Antunes (Brazil) are introduced with the piece by our composer, Makoto Shinohara.

5. - As I wrote in one of this report, unless the financial situation is not improved, we cannot plan any big project, but we will keep the usual activities.
