  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications: 

    Music Centre Slovakia is a centre of documentation, promotion and publishing with nationwide activity, whose mission is to promote Slovak music by organizing concerts with the music of Slovak composers, to publish scores and books on music, to document musical life in Slovakia, and to promote Slovak musical culture at home and abroad.

    New publications:
    - sheet music: Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský: Missa in honorem St. Nicolai, Jubilate Deo
    - books: Ivan Parík: Fragments
    - CDs: Dalibor Karvay: Souvenirs

    Main Projects and Activities of Local Relevance:
    - Sunday Matinées in the City Gallery of Bratislava, Mirbach Palace – weekly chamber concerts, including performances of works by many Slovak composers
    - Concerts for schools
    - Young Talents’ Forum – educational project for young artists, contribution of their participation on international competitions or master classes;
    - Concerts at the Slovak Institutes in Europe
    - Jazz concerts – presentation of Slovak jazz musician, especially abroad
    - Feast of Music – event inspired by the Fête de la musique
    - other concerts and artistic performances in Slovakia and abroad – many of them in cooperation with Slovak institutes in the various countries, or as part of music festivals

    Main Projects and Activities of International or European Relevance:
    Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský's International Singing Competition
    - 22nd edition, re-established after 7 years

    Allegretto Žilina – Central European Music Festival
    - international festival of young musicians, 27th edition, 7 concerts – a “showcase” for young performers and ensembles-winners of important international competitions, such as Queen Elisabeth in Brussels, ARD Munich, Prague Spring, Montreal, Guebwiller, Indianapolis, Salzburg, Melbourne, Vienna.
    - the participants came from United Kingdom, Hungary, Russia, Italy, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Slovak Republic
    - Prize of the Festival Allegretto: Sergey Malov, viola (Russia)
    - Prize of the Audience: Jakub Čižmarovič, piano (Slovakia)
    - Prize of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra: Alexey Stadler, cello (Russia)
    - Prize of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava: Jiři Rožeň, conductor (Czech Republic)
    - Prize of the Mayor of the City of Žilina: Kerem Hasan, conductor (United Kingdom)

    Melos-Ethos Festival
    - international Festival of Contemporary Music, held every other year in November, main organiser is the Music Centre of Slovakia, delegated by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, and the programme is drawn up by the festival committee, cooperation with foreign cultural institutions and other local or international organizations
    - the aim of the festival was to present classic works of the 20th and 21st century avant-garde scene, thus filling the gap created by the former regime, and also to present works by Slovak and Czech modernist composers, spanning from the late 1950s to the present day - works which were marginalised and kept under the lid
    - platform for the meeting of Slovak music and current trends in contemporary music worldwide, both in the field of composition and performance
    - 2017: 11 concerts, more than 50 works composed by 43 composers, 3 festival commissions, artists and ensembles from abroad: Tosiya Suzuki (Japan), Minguet Quartett (Germany), Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej (Poland), Synaesthesis Ensemble (Lithuania), österreichisches ensemble für neue musik (Austria); Slovak artists and ensembles: Magdaléna Bajuszová, Miki Skuta, Diana Buffa, Ivan Buffa, Martin Adámek, Milan Paľa, Ondrej Veselý, Mario Košik, Marián Lejava, Quasars Ensemble, Mucha Quartet, EnsembleSpectrum, Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Slovak State Philharmonic Košice
    - composers present at the festival: Helena Tulve, Andrzej Kwieciński, Andrius Arutiunian
    - pre-festival event: concert of Ensemble Modern's project "epoche_f"
