Annual Report

  • Year:
  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications:

Sound and Music's overall programme includes artist development, audience development and education. Artist development work is focussed on selecting and supporting a diverse range of composers to create new work, alongside professional and personal development support. Audience development is digitally-led, and includes the British Music Collection website, The Sampler website, and the Sound and Music podcast. Education includes the UK's only residential Summer School for young composers aged 14-18, as well as the Minute of Listening primary school educational software, and a programme of action research into how composition is taught, and learned, in a range of educational contexts at secondary school level. Underpinning all of this is Sound and Music's campaigning work, which has included internationally significant campaigns around gender equality, commission fees, diversity more generally and the importance of composition as part of music education.
