Annual Report

  • Year:
    2014
  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications:

At the start of 2014 a new Board of Directors was elected. 2014 therefore was clearly a year of transition: the new Board had to find its course, but it also meant a fresh start and a good moment to think about the specific role of ISCM-Vlaanderen in the Flemish music scene.

A round table session about the future role of ISCM-Vlaanderen was organized in the Concertgebouw Bruges on 16 September 2014.
One of the results of this is the start of a new project to be realized for the first time in March 2016: HEAR & NOW – Week van de Nieuwe Geluiden (Week of the New Sounds). This will be a 10-day festival throughout Flanders to celebrate new music in all its forms with concerts, workshops, debates, etcetera. To organize this festival not only members of ISCM-Vlaanderen are solicited, but all parties involved in music and musical education in Flanders.
To realize this festival ISCM-Vlaanderen applied for a subsidy from the Flemish Community (in February 2015). The answer to this application is to be expected in July 2015 and will have great implications for the realization of this project.

A new digital newsletter, addressed to all members and other subscribers, was launched in October 2014 and the website was refreshed.

The project NewAud was continued: NewAud is the follow-up project of New Music-New Audiences and is focusing on strengthening experiments with new concert forms on the international level (cfr. infra). ISCM-Vlaanderen coordinated this project in name of the Flemish ensembles involved: Spectra ensemble, Champ d’Action and Hermes ensemble.
