    ISCM Swedish section's Board of Directors in 2013 consisted of:

    The Board met five times during the year.
    Member Meetings have been organized twice: the Annual Meeting on May 21, and the autumn meeting on 14 December. (See below)

    During the year, Kristian Svensson and Marcel Nishan elected as new members of the Swedish section of the ISCM.
    Operating subsidies from the National Arts Council was for 2012 unchanged at 70 000 SEK.

    Jury Work

    There was no Call for works this year because there were two competitions in 2012. In contrast, adopted three Swedish works to the ISCM World New Music Days 2013 in Slovakia and Austria:

    ISCM World Music Days of Slovakia / Austria 2013

    This year WMD took place from November 4 to 15, in Kosice and Bratislava (Slovakia) and Vienna (Austria). It was a very long festival, 10 days, so the board chose to divide themselves into different rounds to secure the Swedish participation throughout the period. During the first part of the festival in Kosice was therefore Ylva Q. Arkvik as representative. In Bratislava Eva Sidén came as the representative. And Vienna included the President George Kentros. In Kosice Henrik Strindberg's work ”fifth string2 for solo violin was played. Ylva also had time for some comparison between Australia and Sweden in the gender equality sphere thanks talks with outgoing ISCM president John Davis and Australian delegate Cat Hope, information that was brought back both to us and to the association broom. During the Bratislava part of the festival there were no Swedish works played but there were several meetings of the General Assembly, and honorary member Kaia Saariaho was the main composer for his part. In Vienna met with the two Swedish plants by meadows Beste and Stefan Thorsson attention. This was particularly pleasing since the choir that performed Thorsons works first refused to perform the work as it is about a man who suffers from Tourette's syndrome, and therefore contained words that the Polish choir did not want to speak in a church. After much coaxing from the festival management and the Swedish section was changed to the final concert venue to a less sacred ones. So it felt extra nice that the work was so well received by the audience, and the composer was also pleased with his performance to the end.
    During the General Assembly, we were furthermore informed that an exchange between Sweden, the UK, Estonia and Croatia was approved by the ISCM. This means that 8 composers traveling between these four countries during 2014 to share experiences on what it means to be a composer in the 2000s, as well as comparing different survival strategies applied in the different countries. This is to see if we can draw lessons from different countries' cultural ideas and inspire new solutions. It is also obvious that the contacts will be created between countries.

    Magazine Nutida Musik

    Swedish section is the editor-in-chief of the journal Nutida Musik(Contemporary Music). Editor of the journal has in 2013 been Andreas Engström. The journal has been published four times during the year, and as usual, we invite all members of the ISCM not members of the FST on a subscription to the magazine (members of the FST already get it home to the mailbox). The newspaper also received increased funding from the KUR in 2013, a clear sign that the profile of the magazine and the music ISCM representing raised in Sweden.

    Annual meeting

    The annual meeting was held on 21 May at EMS in Stockholm. Alongside the usual
    Annual Meeting documents were given information on international exchange projects and future plans. It was particularly pleasing to Carl-Gunnar Åhlen could then provide some historical flashbacks from the 70's ISCM, then as Denmark and the Nordic region provoked by submitting a tonal works and artistic quarrel was omnipresent. The idea was brought to the ISCM would compile some of those memories in a written contemporary music designs.


    The traditional autumn meeting of members held on 14 December at the EMS. The autumn meeting processed new membership applications, and featured talks and reports on the year's activities and ISCM arrangement where even the exchange project with England were the focus.


    Besides working with the website and regular mailings with information about, among other things international tonsättartävlingar continued ISCM Swedish section also our Facebook page for a more informal and quicker way to keep members (and others interested) informed about what is going on in the section and internationally.
