  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications: 

    In the period between the ISCM World Music Days 2003 and 2004 the ISCM Lithuanian section concentrated on the collaboration with the contemporary music festival “Is arti” which is organized by the Lithuanian Composers Union Kaunas branch every year in November. In the framework of this initiative, the Lithuanian-Canadian exchange project started in 2002 and led by the ISCM Lithuanian section and Numus (Toronto), has been continued. In November 2003, Penderecki String Quartet from Canada performed the works of Peter Hatch, Piotr Grella-Mozejko, George Crumb, Steve Reich in Kaunas. In November 2004, festival “Is arti” is organizing a large presentation of the contemporary Canadian music.The concert of Ergo Ensemble will feature the compositions of James Rolf, Paul Steenhuisen, Stephen Clarke, Linda Catlin Smith, Micheline Roi, Rodney Sharman as well as the works of the Lithuanian composers Bronius Kutavicius, Vytautas Germanavicius, Sarunas Nakas, Algirdas Martinaitis, Vidmantas Bartulis. During the festival the lectures and workshops of the Canadian composers and musicians are planned. Accordingly in Canada the presentation of the contemporary Lithuanian music is organized in October 2004. The project is supported by Canada Council and Lithuanian Culture and Sport Supporting Foundation.
    Besides mentioned exchange project, in 2004 the ISCM Lithuanian section is organising the concerts of the contemporary Dutch and Belgian music. The invited guests of this year “Is arti” festival – sound artist Hans van Koolwijk (Holand) and Ebony kwartet (Belgium). During these concerts the commisioned works of the Lithuanian composers Zita Bruzaite and Vidmantas Bartulis will be also performed.
    The ISCM Lithuanian section does its activities in the very rich contemporary music life in Lithuania. The expanding of the section activities are based on growthing financial support from national and international funding bodies. In 2005 the section will feature the 100th anniversaries of one of its founders – the Lithuanian composer Vytautas Bacevicius (1905-1970).
    The board of the ISCM Lithuanian section consists of composer Vytautas Germanavicius, president; composer Osvaldas Balakauskas, composer Vidmantas Bartulis, musicologist Ruta Gaidamaviciute, musicologist and composer Linas Paulauskis, musicologist Ruta Gostautiene. During the stay of section`s president in USA, the section is chaired by Ruta Gostautiene.
