  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications: 

    The ISCM Lithuanian Section is independent organization with it’s activities partly supported by the Lithuanian Composers Union, Lithuanian Ministry of Culture and private foundations such as Vytautas Landsbergis Foundation, S. Karosas Foundation.
    Over the last concert season section has continued to represent Lithuanian composers and promote their music in other countries. Osvaldas Balakauskas “Ostrobotnian Symphony” was performed in the International Festival “Two Days and Two Nights of New Music” by Odessa Chamber Orchestra con. Vlodymyr Runchak in April 2002.
    In the same month section had opportunity to bring Lithuanian tuba and piano duet Sergejus Kirsenko and Neringa Butkute to the International festival “Baroque and Avantgarde” in Zaporozhe which was supported by Soros Foundation (USA). The concert featured the music of Algirdas Martinaitis, Vytautas Germanavicius, Valdas Stanaitis, Zibuokle Martinaityte.
    In cooperation with the NUMUS concert organization in Toronto a series concert- portrait of composer Vidmantas Bartulis featured in 2003 March in several canadian cities Toronto, Waterloo and London with the Wilfrid Laurier University Chamber Orchestra and Penderecky String Quartet. Panel Discussion "Musical Source and Genre in Global Culture" happened at Wilfrid Laurier University Forrester Hall with composers Vidmantas Bartulis, Piotr Grella-Mozejko, Peter Hatch.
    We have been continuing our coolaboration with Kaunas contemporary music festival “IS ARTI” organized by the Lithuanian Composers Union Kaunas Branch. In 2002 November we invited contemporary music ensemble from Taiwan “Chai Found Music Workshop” with the chinese composers music program and special commission for that ensemble was made a piece of Vidmantas Bartulis “Untyte”. The Irish composer Ellaine Agnew was invited as a guest-composer with her piece for choir “Missa Brevis” performed by Kaunas State Choir dir. Petras Bingelis and also music of swiss composer Jean-Luc Darbellay “Aube Imaginaire”, swedish composer Arne Mellnas “Omnia Tempus Habent” and japanese composer Kazuhiko Hattori “After the Dark II” performed by Kaunas State Choir, soprano Skaidra Jancaite and Kaunas String Quartet.
    The Lithuanian composers music was presented in Kazan in May 2003 in the opening festival of the Sofia Gubaidulina’s contemporary music centre “MusTransit”. The concerts featured music of Algirdas Martinaitis, Vidmantas Bartulis, Vytautas Germanavicius, Vytautas V. Jurgutis, Tomas Juzeliunas, Antanas Kucinskas and Rytis Mazulis. The lecture of the Lithuanian folk music, vocal and instrumental, folk music dialects, new researches and it’s promotion (books, CD’s, video and DVD) was made by folkmusicologist dr.Skirmante Valiulyte.
    Operating with limited financial resources the ISCM LS seeks to promote contemporary music in the form of concerts, music exchanges with other countries, mutual concert projects which is built on ISCM and other contacts.
    The board consists of Vytautas Germanavicius, Chairman of the Section, and the committee members Osvaldas Balakauskas, Vidmantas Bartulis, Ruta Gaidamaviciute, Ruta Gostautiene, Linas Paulauskis.
