Norway’s foremost contemporary composer and honorary member of the ISCM, born 20th of June 1931, passed on Sat June 5th 2010.

Louis Andriessen was born in Utrecht on June 6, 1939. After an early training in composition with his father, composer Hendrik Andriessen, he continued his studies with Kees van Baaren at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Receiving the major composition prize upon his graduation, Andriessen subsequently studied two years with Luciano Berio in Milan (1962-'63) and Berlin (1964-'65).

Yori-Aki Matsudaira born on 27 March 1931 in Tokyo, Japan, was the President of the Japanese Section from 1998 to 2002. As you may remember, in 2001, he successfully organized the World Music Days in Yokohama, and in the Festival, he was also the chair of the Juries to select the pieces from every sections.

Diana Rotaru (1981, Romania)wins the ISCM-IAMIC Young Composer Award 2008 for Sakti Diana Rotaru (1981, Romania) received the Prize for Shakti concerto for saxophone and orchestra performed on October 27 by Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra during the ISCM-ACL World Music Days 2008 which took place from 24 October till 8 November in Vilnius, Lithuania.

ISCM World Music Days 2009.
Theme of the festival in Sweden is “Listen to the world”. Contextual music is expected to be entered, short works preferably. The works will be curated rather than selected by a jury. 3 regions are involved, each with their own focus and curators. In Visby the focus is vocal music and wind music, in Växjö the focus is chamber music and electronic music, in Gothenburg the focus is cross over (world-around perspective). Main organizations are VICC, COMA and OPEN. The whole festival is scheduled 24 September to 5 October 2009.

Bernhard Wulf presented the Mongolian New Music Association, which applied for membership as a National Section and was unanimously accepted. The Association organizes educational activities, an annual festival “Roaring Hooves” (in the Goby desert) and is part of a network of central Asian countries.

Ludmilla Yurina presented the Kiev Branch of the Composers Union of Ukraine and was accepted by the Executive Committee as a new Full Associate Member of the ISCM and warmly welcomed by the assembly.
The Union of Composers of Bulgaria applied for membership as a National Section and the General Assembly then unanimously accepted. The former member of the ISCM was the Bulgarian Contemporary Music Society, whose membership ended in 2005. The UCB is a different organization which has been active for many years.
