Description:

In 2010 the ISCM – Slovak Section founded the student ensemble VENI ACADEMY, which cooperates closely with VENI ensemble, the oldest ensemble of contemporary music active today. Members of VENI ensemble work as tutors for the different instrumental groups – but VENI ACADEMY itself has variable instrumentation. Activities of the ensemble to this day include workshops and seminars for students, concerts, round tables with students on contemporary music and art and two recordings.

Two main strengths of VENI ACADEMY are that it is a unique educational platform in the field of contemporary music, and the degree of personal contact between the students and professional musicians. The student ensemble is a popular platform with easy-to-meet presentation which makes contemporary music more accessible to the audience. Their concerts are a popular part of the ARS NOVA / ISCM New Music Days festival schedule.

Over the 5 years of its existence the ensemble has played more than 20 concerts in various cities throughout Slovakia including a concert at the World New Music Days in 2013, and premiered several works. More than 150 students from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Estonia, Brazil, Sweden and Russia have participated as members of the ensemble. In the past several composers from different countries were involved in the ensemble’s activities. All VENI ACADEMY activities have since long been connected with dissipating and promoting of the ISCM trademark, through collaborations and promotions at workshops, concerts and others. In 2016 we want to create an opportunity for VENI ACADEMY to expand even more and include new international students.

In the frame of the cooperative project VENI ACADEMY: Summer music workshops 2016 the ensemble will welcome music students from three other countries (the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary) for the period of 7 days in July to work together with professional musicians and play a concert at the ARS NOVA / ISCM New Music Days festival.

Two to three students will be welcomed from each one of the mentioned countries to take part in the project and join the ensemble. The participating students should be between 17 and 26 years of age, i. e. the target group are higher grades of conservatory students and students of music academies. There are no preferences regarding to the instruments, as the ensemble has open instrumentation.
